Obituary of Eleanor Connell
Eleanor A. Connell
Eleanor Ann Selzer Connell, 85, was born to William and Lu Selzer in Ames, Iowa, and found eternal peace on January 15, 2019. She was married to John Robert “Bob” Connell for 59 years and widowed when he passed away in 2017.
“Ellie” is survived by her daughter: Teresa Layman (Gary) and their children Matthew and Kyle; daughter: Christie O’Halloran (Mark) and their children Michael and Jack; son: Steven (Bethany) and their children Kevin and Hannah; brother William Selzer and sisters Josephine Scott and Marilyn Chamberlain; and numerous nephews and great-nephews; nieces and great-nieces.
Ellie will be remembered for her love of family and her passionate support of local causes. At any given time, you might have found Ellie volunteering at the Pregnancy Care Center; collecting and donating gently used coats to elementary school children; “working” at the St. Matthews Thrift Store; distributing Meals on Wheels; helping Bob at Bingo and other Knights of Columbus events or participating as a Columbiette to the local chapter of Knights of Columbus.
Ellie was employed for many years as a nurse in Labor and Delivery. It was not unusual for Ellie to fondly remember and speak with former patients and the children delivered “on her watch.” She later worked in Ambulatory Surgery.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Winter Haven, FL, on Thursday, January 24, at 9am.
