Loyd Beasley was my “Uncle Loyd”. I have many fond memories of him as a child and young adult. As a kid, I was always happy to see him because he was on a nuclear submarine, which was really cool back then, and he was not around on weekly visits to Nano and Poppy’s house, but there was always news about him. We always wanted to go into the “Little A” but were not allowed because that was Uncle Loyd’s…so the legends and stories grew!
When he did come back from the Navy, he rode this great Triumph motorcycle and gave me a few rides on it, but only if I promised not to tell my parents or his! I used to spend a few weekend nights at the “A-frame”, and he would always set up the boat to go fishing which included gathering worms from the mulch pile. He would set up targets for me to shoot my Red Ryder. My favorite though was all the times he made sure the tractor had gas so I could ride it. Life was much simpler back then, at least for a kid, no internet, cell phones or video games. We played outside and Uncle Loyd was usually around to help fix something or set it up! He was also a very entertaining storyteller. Looking back, I’m positive I heard the Disney version of most of those stories.
When I was a teenager, I did work for my father on weekends and Uncle Loyd did as well. He was really a very handy person! Seems like he could fix most anything, car engines, diesel engines, power tools boat motors or transoms. I bought this old Jeep and he really fixed it up very nice and at a budget price.
Where I am going with this is to say that he was a part of my young life and he was around for many of the times that were really good. He later had his own family and kids and by then, I was either away at college or was an adult working full time. We did not get to see each other very often in the last 35 years, mostly Christmas or Easter or Thanksgiving holidays, but I always enjoyed seeing and talking with him.
I want his kids to know that their father was a very good-hearted man, with a strong work ethic who would always try to help if needed.
He will not be forgotten as long as we remember him!

This brought back some fond memories, and some I didn't know about.
I got my first dog from Uncle Lloyd. He gave me the pick of the litter and I love that dog until the day he passed. I also remember him as I got older and had my first child and he would hold him as a baby during the holidays almost the entire time. He had a way with kids. He was definitely a very kind and gentle man. He will be missed and he will be remembered.
