Martha Martinson

Obituary of Martha L. Martinson

Martha L. Martinson (98), daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and sister in
Christ, passed from this life, peacefully, as God’s baptized child, by grace through faith to life eternal
Sunday December 19, 2021, under the compassionate care of Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida.

Martha was born August 22, 1923 to Alfred and Bertha Lisser in Monroe, Wisconsin. She worked several
clerical jobs in that area, and at Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After she and her husband,
Harland, raised four boys, she returned to work at J.C. Penneys in Milwaukee.

Martha married Harland B. Martinson on February 7, 1949 in Milwaukee. They lived in Milwaukee over
forty years, before they moved to Lake Wales, Florida after Harland retired. Martha’s husband of
seventy years, died on September 25, 2019, Martha, then, lived at A Banyan Residence in Venice,
Florida, where she received kind and loving care.

Martha would agree that her greatest work, worry, pride, joy and love was to raise her four boys (for
seventy years!). The time she spent at home with them meant everything to them and her. Martha, as
well, loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was happy when she could shower them
with hugs and kisses.

She enjoyed life to the fullest; beyond her family she (and Harland) made hosts of wonderful life-long
friends. Their activities included gardening, golfing, nature and sight-seeing, card playing, and church
fellowship and volunteering. Martha’s heart thrilled at large wonders and simple pleasures; as she held
a hummingbird in her hand, amazed at flowers blooming under her gaze in her beautiful garden, and
finding shells and sharks teeth on the Florida beaches with the thrill of a young girl.

Martha and Harland were members in their later years of Abiding Lutheran Church, Winter Haven,
Florida. There they were known and beloved as greeters with the gift of God’s grace to share and
welcome all.

Martha is survived by her four sons; Jeff (Faith) Martinson, Wausau, WI., Mark (Kay) Martinson,
Wheaton, IL., Jimmy (Cristina) Martinson, San Isidro, Costa Rica, and Brian (Liz) Martinson, Venice, FL.,
along with six grandchildren; Carlene (Joe) Haavig, Leif (Megan) Martinson, Kenny (Jingshan) Martinson,
Nathan (Jamie) Martinson, Hope Martinson, and Anna (Ryan) Amerson. She is also survived by three
great grandchildren: James and Braden Haavig, and Nathan Mark Martinson.

May Martha rest in peace and joy in the paradise of God, with the saints in light, where life is eternal
and love’s everlasting. Glory be to God, through Jesus, Lord and Savior, forever.
