Obituary of Shirley Mae Walther

Shirley M. Walther passed away on March 19, 2019 in Winter Haven, Florida. She was born Shirley Mae Mathys in Casco, Wisconsin on June 6, 1927, the only child of John Andrew Mathys and Olive (Burke) Mathys. She spent her childhood in Casco, then attended the School of Journalism at the University of Wisconsin, afterwards earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from Marquette College of Nursing in Milwaukee. On November 25, 1950, she married her sweetheart, Roy Richard Walther. They initially resided in Casco, Wisconsin and then Berkley, Illinois. She served for many decades as an RN with the Veterans Administration. In 1986 Shirley and Roy retired to Winter Haven, Florida. A woman of great faith and caring, Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 55 years, who died in 2006. She has been laid to rest beside him at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
