Obituary of Ilene J. Garrett

Ilene J. Garrett, Age 88 passed away on July 29, 2023, after a long illness. She was born on June 28, 1935, in Ashford, WV to her now deceased parents Rosco and Hester Payne. She Is survived by her husband Al Garrett, daughter Sandra Messer (Buddy) Huntsville, AL, stepdaughters Kathy Carr (Larry) St Mary, WV, Matty Garrett, Tucker, GA, and stepson Mike Garrett, Ft. Myers, FL, and sister Martha Toney. She is preceded in death by her sisters Isabelle Little, Glady Smith, and 2 brothers, Bill Payne (Carol) and Kenneth Payne (Helen) and 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.  

She graduated from Sherman High School, Seth, WV in 1952 at the age of 17 and worked in Columbus, Ohio for many years before moving to FL because of her previous husband’s health who passed away in 1981. She met AL Garrett in 1982 in Venice, FL and married him on 6-1-1983 in Sarasota, FL. They settled in Lake Alfred, FL for 17 years before moving to Winter Haven, FL for the past 10 years.
