Obituary of Richard Allen Moots

Richard Allen Moots Sr., 81, of Winter Haven, FL, passed away on August 9, 2022, after a brief illness. 

Richard was born on February 24, 1941, to Jean Maleski in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Mount Dora High School in 1960, he went on to serve in the Army as an Assistant to the Chaplin.  After his honorable discharge he attended Polk Community College.  Upon graduation he would work as an accountant. 

He met Judith Karen Hooper in Sebring, Florida, in 1964.  Richard and Judi would go on to have two sons Richard, Jr. and Robert.  In 2012, Richard married Judy Tully of Winter Haven. 

Upon retirement Richard enjoyed watching baseball, playing senior softball and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He also served as a Stephen Minister and Deacon for First Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven. Richard had been active in coaching youth baseball for several years and is fondly remembered by players and coaches.  

Richard is preceded in death by his parents and first wife Judith Moots.  He is survived by his wife Judy Moots of Winter Haven, sons Richard A. (Leslie) Moots Jr. of Winter Haven and Robert H. (Kristy) Moots of Haines City.  Grandchildren Kaci  (Nick) Segna (Jacksonville), Brett Moots (Atlanta, GA), Trevor Moots (Orlando), Morgan Moots (Sanford), Eric Moots (Juneau, AK) and Ryan Moots (Winter Haven).  He is also survived by brother Stephen Maleski (Tavares) and Barbara Malone (Palm Bay). 

There will be a celebration of life on August 15, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church, Winter Haven at 11:00 am.
